Where do they carry the tronos?

The men take the tronos and carry them out of the churches and through the cities.

What are the followers in the robes and pointed hats called?

They are called Nazarenos.

Who carries the Tronos?


Groups of Men carry the statues, there must be at least 30 men carrying one statue.

Swaying of the trono, why?

They move in a swaying motion to the beat of a drum and to the commands of the leaders around them.

Why do they wear costumes that resemble the KKK costumes?


The people who wear them are based on the people of Nazareth. They wear tall pointy hats that cover their entire face, besides their eyes, to kind of hide their identity. It is unknown where the costume idea originated from, whether it was the Ku Klux Klan or from Semana Santa. The Ku Klux Klan used white costumes as a racial significance, but in Semana Santa they use different colors such as black and blue.

Semana Santa is also known as "Holy Week" or for Mexico it is there Easter. For most in Mexico it is a time of 2 week vacation period and just kick back and relax. Holy week celebrates the last days of Christ's life. Semana Santa is 2 full weeks of parades, processions, parties, prayers and pagentry.
